Moss -  Is a plant that has a shallow root system.  Moss and algae can be spread throughout the neighborhood through the wind. 

Any of these bacteria/mosses can cause damage to your shingles over time.  The longer they stick around on your roof, the more likely they are to cause  damage to your shingles or possibly cause leaks in your roofing over time.
